Welcome to S.P.A.R.S.E.
Welcome to the home page of S.P.A.R.S.E. The Southern Pennsylvania Amateur Radio Simplex Enthusiasts club is dedicated to the preservation, education, and enjoyment of the VHF / UHF simplex operations. Regardless if you're an avid data, FM, SSB, CW, or enjoy the microwave frequencies, we're sure you'll find this club enjoyable.

S.P.A.R.S.E. was founded by Jeremy Kiehner KB3DLP after joining with the Society for Preservation of Simplex. Noticing a lack of simplex use, and ultimately lack of simplex ragchew, he has decided to form a club dedicated to the use of the mode of operation. While the club is still in it's infancy, Jeremy has made it is personal mission to construct a weekly net, rag chew sessions, and various other activities away from the grind of repeater systems on 2 meters FM simplex.

A simplex net is currently in the process of being constructed and will be initiated in early to mid sprint of 2008. Until that time, S.P.A.R.S.E. has adopted 144.330 as it's central simplex frequency of operation, with a backup of 144.350. Where rag chew is encouraged and invited, regardless of time of day.

With the common place of repeater systems, it is by no means the mission of S.P.A.R.S.E. to replace, or boycott such systems. Rather they should be used as the owners have many hours and dollars invested in their machines. However, it is illogical and general bad practice to use a repeater when simplex at low power will suffice for effective communications to the station you wish to contact. In the event of a catastrophic emergency, repeater systems can become congested, inoperable or simply unusable, simplex then is the only option to carry out communications. With such an event possible in Pennsylvania, it would behoove amateur operators to embrace and learn to effectively communicate without the need of a repeater system.

S.P.A.R.S.E. does not have any membership dues, and membership is open to all radio amateurs regardless of QTH, however the core of it's members is located in the Southern Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland region. Membership is at will, and will not expire. If you wish removal from the club, you may do so at your request to KB3DLP.

73's and hope to hear you on the challenging and fun mode of operations.

Welcome
